In most instances an electronic collar is humane. A few dogs overreact to the shock. If this describes your dog, continuing to use a shock collar is inhumane. In that case I would try a citronella antibark collar. If that didn't work the next option would be debarking. You left out one other option, give the dog away.
References :
Sorry... I think that loud barking dogs are a huge nuisance, and very disrespectful to your neighbors regardless of age or lifestyle.

My brothers roommate has a barking Golden Retriever, and they have a collar that shocks the dog when it barks. Anyway- when I am over for a BBQ the dog is being a dog but then gets excited and starts barking. They bring out the collar and the dog stops barking instantly, even before it is on. Then they put on the collar, and the dog is quiet for the rest of the day.

I would say get the collar. At first the dog will freak out, but it really will not take long at all for the dog to learn how to avoid the shock- stop barking.

You then have a happy neighbor, a happy quiet dog, and peace.

Also- there are noise ordinances and laws for a reason. People do deserve a reasonable amount of quiet and comfort, so laws were passed to protect them. Disturbing the peace can be any time of the day. Someone should not have to sound proof their house for loud music or a barking dog. Neighbors should keep their noise to a level that when their neighbors doors and windows are closed they will not be disturbed by your, your guests, or your pets noise.

Sorry- that's the law, and common courtesy.

I suggest you buy the collar, and say sorry to your neighbor. Peace and love start with the first step then roll on and on!
References :
I'd take the shock collar.

At least then once the dog understands that once the collar goes on, its quiet time. Then you can get a dummy collar and keep it on her when you're at work.

Debarking is nuts, and euthanasia is not an answer for lack of training.
References :
Citronella anti-bark collars are far more humane than any of the other options listed and are actually more effective than shock collars. I would rehome a dog before cutting its vocal chords or killing it just for barking.

Sue you for what? Has she filed a complaint with the police? Most cities do have noise ordinances but those generally require the dog to be barking overnight, not during the day. Giving the dog toys outside or being outside to play with her may solve the issue. But I don't know that this woman actually has a legal standing.

Sorry, but when your previous questions are about farts in jars, your contacts trying to kill you, and using rogaine on your armpits, I really don't see why anyone should think this is a real question.

PSA: Don't feed the trolls.

Answer: Barking collars can be humane when used correctly - under the guidance of a trainer.
References :
Omg! they cut the vocal chords! and who would kill a pour animal just for barking! i don't approve of the sock collar but if you options are killing and muting i go for the collar. also try using the high pitched barking collar. every time it barks it makes a very high-pitched annoying sound dogs hate. also they have training sessions at pet co or pet smart (probably pet smart but im not sure)

good luck and don't kill your dog lol!
References :
me

They aren't your ONLY options. Have you not heard of the *other* collar. Well, go down to your local pet shop and check it out. The collar itself gives off a high pitched noise when the dog is barking.

Sort of the same level as a dog whistle. When the noise is heard it distracts the dog into doing something else.

Give it a go. No harm is done to the dog
