My pitbull use to be friendly but as he has gotten bigger he has gotten more agressive..would a shock collar make him more amiable?

First he should be neutered to cut down on hormonal aggression.
Then he should be trained properly, and retaught regularly.

If he’s still having a difficult time calming down, you should seek a vet’s advice about this.

I also recommend calming devices sold at the local pet store. You can use wall plugs, herbal treats, or a collar. Look into them, they may help. Although I’d avoid the alcohol “medicine” sold near them.

Shock collars aren’t nice, at all. Just rain him properly, show him YOUR the boss

they work for teaching your dog not to bark. If an aggressive dog isn’t allowed to bark, then they will skip that step and go directly for lunging at whatever they’re upset at. I would seek out a professional trainer who can help you work out the challenges you’re having.

Here’s a novel idea.

How about you – dare I suggest it? – actually train and socialize him?

Shock collars are cruel, unnecessary and are usually used by owners too lazy to train the dog properly – people that would rather just change the effect with no regard whatsoever to the underlying cause of the problem. Why anybody would want to take away a dog’s ability to bark is beyond me. It’s how they communicate FFS. How would you like it if someone shocked you to scare you into not talking?

If you don’t have the time to train him properly, give him to someone who will.

Neutering him would also calm him down if he has not already been done.

ADD: Greek god, no offence, but is this person really a “serious trainer”?

Shock collars are inhumane.
He’s probably just territorial. Get him neutered, then get your friends to come in and throw pieces of chicken without making eye contact or trying to stroke him. Introduce them to him outside his territory – a field or something. Shockers/sprayers, etc. tend to make the dog more hyperactive and therefore more aggressive.
Hope this helps (:

Neutering will not help aggression. They just want your money. Get a trainer be the pack leader

I don’t even know where to start on this one..

My advice..rehome your dog to someone with some common sense and who is responsible. Get no other pets , Don’t have kids . ..yep that about covers it

Despite what the unwashed have claimed in here, including all the “experts”, the E collar is the most advanced and humane tool available to serious trainers.
When rescue groups and humane societies use them to manage aggression, I wonder why all the the humanics argue against their use.
Find a trainer who is qualified to teach you how to use one and go from there. Good luck!

ADD: NO, he is not…that is why I suggested that he finds one.
