Why do cats pee on dog beds and bathroom mats?

in Dog Beds

My cat is 10 years old and he pees on my dog's bed and the bathroom mats but never anywhere else except to the litter box. Why does he keep doing this and how do i stop him?

because if you have a dog, the cat feels the need to mark its territory, which includes anywheres the dog sits around. You can get special kinds of litter that have scents to attract your cat, however i would use a pet odor disinfectant spray and put it anywheres your pets sit on so they won't feel the need to urinate on it.

Hope this helps!

you might have to throw them away or wash it really good. Bottom line they want to mark their territory and if you neuter or spay the cat it will stop.

he may be marking his territory, or he could also be mad.

another reason could be a bladder infection or a thyroid problem.

my cat had that problem, and we just took it to the vet to give it medication.

That has all got to be BS from the folks answering above. I have a female who pees on the rubber backed bath mats too and there are no dogs and she's not old (under 1 year).

There has to be a real reason!!!

For the help you could start by closing your bathroom door all the time.

good luck!

ok i pretty much got the same question. and to the answer that they would stop after getting them fixed…… no it doesn't stop. i have 3 cats and my male chubbs who is 10 months old does it too. my bathroom matts and the matt in my laundry room have no chance when he's around. i also find that they like peeing on bookbags that are left on the floor. the oddest place he pee's though is in the bathtub. no matter how much i yell at him or get mad he still does it. at times i'll use the bathroom and he will come in a squat right in front of me. this guy is only young. you said your cat is 10. too probably help you with your question is to also add how long ago he started doing this. i really hope you get the right answer. good luck.
