Let him drag it around with him when he is in the house so he gets used to having it attached to him.

By hooking him up and taking him out on the leash. My dogs hated it at first, but I didn't let them have their way. They started walking when they realized I wasn't going to cave.

Most do not like a leash at first. They learn to know it means they are going out for a walk, so they get trained to love them. What we do with ours is hook the leash on the puppy and let him play around the house. Only thing is you need to keep an eye on the puppy while you do this. It can get wrapped around things too quickly. Also give the puppy a treat while you hook his leash on, He will learn the leash is a wonderful thing to have.

You should take him on a leash, and go up and down your backyard so he can get used to the feeling of it.

You can let roam the house with the leash on his collar so he gets used to it but remember that YOU are the leader not the follower so when you want take a walk take a walk. If you have to drag him a little at first (remember dogs learn much faster than we humans do) it will be worth it in the end when both of you will benefit from the walks. Also as hard as it might be do not get frustrated try to remain calm because it's you feeds your dogs energy level. It takes time and plenty practice.
