He'll learn to not do something by negative reinforcement. Obviously you don't want to hit the little guy, or hurt him in any way. So the easiest thing is to put something on the leash that will taste really gross to the puppy, but won't hurt it. Overtime he will associate the leash with a bad taste, and won't bite anymore. Something sour will work, try lemon juice. It won't hurt him, but he'll think it tastes terrible.

I don't have a problem with medium to small dogs with teaching them, but I'm not strong enough to hold bigger dogs back! I want to know how you can teach larger dogs to correctly walk by your side on a loose leash and have typical walking manners.
Do chain collars really work, and if so, how do you properly use them? A head collar maybe? Again, how do you use them?
Any other tips would be great!
Thanks =]
Go to a dog trainer they will tell you all about the chock chain and how to walk your dog properly.

Hello,
Can someone please advise me on how I can train my 8 wks toy poodle to walk on a leash?
Thank u!
we had a small yorkie & the only way we could get him to walk on a leash was take his favorite toy or a treat of some kind and get him to walk to us like that on his leash. finally he got to were if you got his leash out he goes running to the door because he knows he gets to be walked & then we just give him a dog treat.
took about a week to get him to walk really good. but we just used the regular leash on him at first not the retractable ones, they scare him. good luck!

Have you tried using a Halti or Gentle Leader halter? They both work similar to a halter on a horse. The principle behind them is: Where the head goes the body will follow. Also, take your dog to basic obedience classes and work with it on the commands. You can train the dog and it will be a much nicer pet to have around.
